Description

Responsibilities

Liquidity & Cash Flow Management

– Ensure daily visibility of MTNC’s cash position across all operating and collection bank accounts.
– Prepare, consolidate, and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow forecasts, incorporating business inputs, committed payments, regulatory constraints, and funding requirements.
– Analyse variances between forecasted and actual cash flows, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to improve forecast accuracy.
– Support working capital optimisation initiatives by providing timely and reliable cash insights.
– Ensure availability of funds to meet operational, statutory, and strategic obligations at all times.

Treasury Operations & Execution

– Execute approved treasury transactions including local and foreign currency payments in line with Delegation of Authority and internal approval workflows.
– Coordinate the preparation, submission, and follow-up of foreign exchange applications with partner banks and the Central Bank, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of documentation.
– Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of Letters of Credit (LCs) and Bank Guarantees (BGs), including issuance, amendments, utilisation, expiry, and closure.
– Support the investment of surplus cash in line with approved treasury and investment policies.
– Monitor settlement of treasury transactions and resolve exceptions promptly.

Bank & Counterparty Management

– Maintain and manage MTNC’s operational banking structure, including account openings, closures, mandates, and signatory management.
– Maintain effective working relationships with partner banks to ensure service continuity and timely issue resolution.
– Review bank charges, fees, and interest calculations, investigate discrepancies, and support initiatives to optimise banking costs.
– Support periodic bank performance reviews and provide operational inputs to Senior Manager.

Risk Management & Internal Controls

– Identify, monitor, and mitigate treasury-related risks including liquidity risk, foreign exchange risk, interest rate risk, counterparty risk, and operational risk.

– Ensure timely preparation, review, and clearance of all bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items within agreed timelines.
– Maintain a strong treasury control environment in line with MTN internal control framework and audit requirements.
– Contribute to the Finance risk register and ensure timely implementation of agreed mitigation actions.

Reporting & Decision Support

– Prepare and review treasury reports and dashboards covering cash position, liquidity forecasts, FX exposure, bank balances, and outstanding regulatory applications.
– Provide accurate and timely treasury inputs to Senior Manager, CFO, Group Treasury, and other stakeholders.
– Proactively escalate material risks, cash constraints, forecast deviations, and regulatory issues with clear analysis and recommendations.

Governance, Compliance & Audit

– Ensure full compliance with MTN Group Treasury policies, procedures, and Delegation of Authority.
– Ensure adherence to Central Bank, statutory, and regulatory requirements related to treasury operations.
– Support internal, external, and regulatory audits by preparing documentation, responding to queries, and implementing agreed audit actions.
– Ensure all treasury activities are conducted in line with MTN Code of Conduct.

People & Stakeholder Management

– Supervise, coach, and develop treasury team members to ensure high performance and continuity.
– Ensure effective knowledge transfer, documentation of processes, and succession planning.
– Work closely with Finance Operations, Tax, FP&A, Shared Services, and Business teams to support end-to-end financial processes.
– Maintain effective collaboration with Group Treasury and Finance Centres of Excellence.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of 3 years university degree in Commerce/Finance or relevant field 
  • Post graduate degree in Finance / Business Management/CPA/Chartered Accountant and / or similar professional accreditation
  • Fluent in English and language of country preferable

 

Certifications (in either one or more of the following):

  • IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) 
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in Treasury, Cash Management, or Financial Operations.
  • Experience operating in a regulated and/or multinational environment, preferably telecommunications or banking.
  • Strong hands-on experience in cash forecasting, banking operations, and foreign exchange management.
  • Proven experience working with ERP systems (Oracle preferred).Deep knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement through the implementation of best practices (Corporate Performance Management)
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets advantageous). 
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and MS Office (Word, Excel-advanced, and Outlook)
  • FMCG/ Telecommunications/ Retail Banking/ service industry context 
  • Pan Africa multi-cultural experience will be preferable
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
